I've been having a lot of pain and swelling in my elbows for a while now and my consultant has advised me to try steroid injections.I've had these into my knees a few times with mixed results so i'm not too worried about the actual jabs but i wondered if anyone has had elbow jabs and did they work? Did they do both at the same time and did you have any problems afterwards.My appointment is on the 22nd and i'm really in two minds about whether to have them after the knee jabs didn't work well last time.Oh one more question - how painful are they !!!(i'm a bit of a coward really)

Agree with Sheila - much less painful than knees and even "more" less painful than fingers!

I have only had one elbow injected and it really hurt so decided not to have anymore done. Having spoken to others, I don't think the medic did it right, hence the pain

Instead I've gone through having depo injections. I've had wrists, ankles and shoulders knees knuckles blah blah blah injected individually over the yrs.

Id try for it, actually. If it hurts and doesnt work out, you don't have to have it again!

I have had every single joint injected with steroid over the years and I can honestly say the elbow injection was far less painful than other joints.

My last injection in the elbow was May 2010, I had alot of active inflammation in the elbow at that time. It was very successful at reducing the pain and swelling and the effect was long lasting. I had another elbow injection this year, I was really gutted it didn't help the pain at all, my rheumy says it's because the pain is due to advanced joint damage and not inflammation, hence why it didn't work.

If your elbow feels inflamed go for it, it's worth a shot.

Just a quick update
After reading the comments on here i bite the bullet and had the injections this afternoon.I told my consultant i would only let him do them but i hardly felt a thing.They were a lot less painless than the knee jabs i had done at the same time!
They feel a bit sore now but i think they inject local in with the steroid and maybe it's wearing off.I'm nicely dosed up with painkillers and have a morphine patch at the ready(just in case!) I'm now looking forward to 2 days off work and will be hitting the online shops to try to get Xmas sorted!
